FAQ
Questions about Klowd
What the apps cost, how one account covers all of them, why nobody here can read your data, and what happens if you forget your password.
About the suite
- What does a Klowd account cost?
- Most apps are $12 a year, and every one starts with a free 30-day trial. Family is the exception at $36, because it is bought for a household rather than a person — everyone the payer invites joins free. The account itself costs nothing: you pay per app, and only for the ones you want. There is no bundle you have to buy to get the one you came for.
- Do I need a separate account for each app?
- No. One Klowd account covers all of them. Sign in once and the apps you have chosen are available, on every device you use.
- Can you read my data?
- No. Every app encrypts your data on your device before it syncs. The key is derived from your password in your browser, and the value our server stores for signing you in is derived separately, so it cannot open anything. What we hold is a blob and no key.
- What happens if I forget my password?
- Any device that still has your data keeps working, and you can reset from there — the local copy is re-encrypted under the new password. But if you have lost every device and forgotten the password, the synced data cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. That is the direct consequence of nobody else holding a key, which is why every app can export an encrypted backup.
- Do the apps work offline?
- Yes, completely. Each app keeps a full local copy of your data and that copy is the authoritative one. Sync is something the apps do in addition, not something they need in order to open.
- Are these native apps from the App Store?
- They are web apps that install to your home screen as PWAs, so they open like any other app and work offline. There is nothing to download from a store, and updates arrive without you doing anything.
- Do you show ads or sell data?
- Neither, and the architecture makes it impossible rather than merely against policy — we could not sell data we are unable to read. The annual fee is the entire business model.
- What happens to my data if I stop paying?
- It stays on your device, and you can export an encrypted backup at any time. Your data is not held hostage by a subscription.
